You’ll find that some names have more potential than others. Rate your names against this guide to discover which ones they are:

5 stars = awesome
4 stars = great
3 stars = good
2 stars = okay
1 star = problematic
Trash = no good (Click on the trash can again to untrash)

Basic Rating Guidelines
If you’re unclear of how to spot an awesome name from a problematic one, here some basic criteria. Read each name aloud to yourself. Then consider:

1. Usability
You want names that are easier to read, spell and pronounce.

2. Psychoacoustics
Appealing names are typically pleasing to the ear. Sometimes it’s because they rhyme, or include letters of the alphabet that sound strong or beautiful. Either way, they simply roll right off the tongue when you say them.

3. Evocative
Great names can also elicit particular senses, memories or feelings when you hear or say them. When you read a name aloud, think of the kind of images or feelings that instantly come to mind. You want names that conjure up strong, desirable mental images or feelings that can associate with what you’re naming.

4. Meaning
The best names do more than evoke strong associations, they evoke meaningful ones that help you connect at a powerful lever with your target audience

Note to self…
You may have started to notice key observations about some of your names. Use the Notes indicator to keep track of these findings. To add a note, simply click on [add note] and type away.

Add new names
Creativity can strike at any moment. If you think of a great name while rating, go to the yellow-colored area, labeled “Add new names here.” Here, you can add your new name to the list for immediate rating.

For our Widget company naming example, we created two new names for the theme, SIMPLE. We added the names to our Quick List for immediate rating:
1. Coremonics (created from combining the bits “core” and “-monics”)
2. Pressence (created from combining the bits “pre-” and “essence”)

Change sort order
At any time, you can change the order in which your names are listed. Simply click on the Change Sort Order button to view your options.
